Initial setup
When you start your Business plan subscription, your account manager walks you through Signal setup as part of onboarding. You'll share:
Categories — the beauty categories you want to track (e.g. skincare, sun care, color cosmetics)
Channels and markets — which platforms and countries matter for your team
Keywords or topics — specific ingredients, claims, brands, or themes to monitor
Recipients — which team email addresses should receive the weekly newsletter
Your AM configures the tracking on the backend and the first Signal newsletter arrives at the next weekly cycle.
How many topics you can track
There's no fixed cap, but since each weekly newsletter has limited space, we recommend keeping topic preferences to 3–5 topics. This range gives each Signal enough room to surface meaningful patterns without crowding the newsletter.
Your AM helps size the right scope during the discovery call. Topic count can scale up if your team's tracking needs are broader, though the trade-off is shallower coverage per topic in each weekly issue.
How to update topics
Topic updates happen through your account manager. To change what Signal monitors:
Email your AM with the changes you want (add, remove, or refine)
AM applies the update on the backend
Changes take effect from the next weekly newsletter
Updates can be requested anytime. There's no fixed cadence — adjust as your priorities shift.
What makes a good Signal topic
Topics that work well sit between too broad and too narrow:
Too broad | Just right | Too narrow |
"K-beauty" | "Korean acne skincare on Olive Young" | "Specific SKU on Coupang" |
"Color cosmetics" | "Color cosmetics on Sephora US" | "[Single competitor] eyeshadow palette only" |
"Ingredients" | "PDRN and peptide pairings on Olive Young" | "PDRN bottled in 30ml glass containers" |
Broad topics produce too much noise. Narrow topics may not have enough data movement week to week to surface meaningful Signals. Your AM helps calibrate.
Common follow-up questions
Can I track topics across multiple markets at once?
Yes. A single topic can span markets (e.g. "PDRN trends across Korea, US, and Japan") or you can track separate per-market topics.
Can different team members have different Signal topics?
Standard Signal goes to all recipients on the same weekly newsletter. For team members needing different focus areas, talk to your AM about multi-track configurations.
How long does a topic change take to apply?
Updates apply to the next weekly issue after your AM processes the request. There's no waiting period beyond the next regular delivery.
Can I pause Signal temporarily?
Yes — contact your AM to pause delivery. Reactivation is also handled by your AM.
